10/40 Facts:

  • About two-thirds of the world's population resides in the so-called "10/40 Window," an area which includes all of South-east Asia.
  • It is estimated that over 8,000 people groups live in this region of the world.
  • About 80% of the world's poorest live in the 10/40 Window.
  • It is home to over 80% of those with the poorest quality of life as judged by life expectancy, literacy rates, etc.
  • It is home to "close to 100% of those who are both most-poor and have least-access to Christian resources" (Wikipedia, 2015).

Current Projects

We have many ongoing projects, and some future projects in the works. Some of our current projects include those outlined below.

Education

We currently provide English instruction to locals who desire to learn English as an additional language. Many locals eagerly desire to learn English, for they have rightly discerned its value in the future, both with job opportunities, and with increased opportunities for travel and for learning.

General Translation

We have sponsored several translation projects already, and have been instrumental in developing proper Unicode standards for one local language. Computer programs are being developed to assist in inter-language translation, to help convert some materials which have already been translated from English from one Asian language to another of nearly the same structure.

Hymn Book

We are currently enlisting the team-work of multiple individuals to set music, translate lyrics, and enter the lyrics into their music scores to produce a real hymn book for the local Christians.

Bible Translation

Asian-language Bibles do exist, but most are poor-quality translations. Asian languages often have difficulty, for both cultural and grammatical reasons, in adequately representing the thoughts presented in the Biblical tongues. For example, in one of the most recent and widely considered better translations of the Bible into one local language, the translation presents Christ as calling Satan His "elder brother," a term of respect, before saying "Get behind me!" in the third temptation in the wilderness. Considering that Satan had just tempted Christ to worship him, this deference seems inexcusable. It appears that even Jesus would compromise for the sake of polity, and this is precisely one of the more difficult issues among Asian Christians--they tend to excuse "small" errors as being unimportant.

In light of the great many problems with the current translations, a new translation has been undertaken. With the help of computer-aided translation, our hope is to complete this translation in much less than the usual time (at least twenty years for the full Bible).
