Car rac ci |kärˈäCHē kəˌrɑtʃi | the name of a family of Italian painters comprised of brothers Annibale (1560 –1609 ) and Agostino (1557 –1602 ) and their cousin Ludovico (1555 –1619 ). Together they established a teaching academy at Bologna. Annibale is famed for his frescoes on the ceiling of the Farnese Gallery in Rome and for his invention of the caricature.
