Stan is laus, St. |ˈstanəˌslôs, -ˌsläs ˌseɪnt ˈstænəslɔs | (1030 –79 ), patron saint of Poland; Polish name Stanisław ; known as St. Stanislaus of Cracow. As bishop of Cracow 1072 –79, he excommunicated King Boleslaus II. According to tradition, Stanislaus was murdered by Boleslaus while attending Mass. Feast day, April 11 (formerly May 7 ).
