たがい 【互い 】each other, one another .解説 2者間には each other , 3者以上では one another が原則だが, 今では2者でも one another が ，3者以上でも each other が用いられる .ともに他動詞または前置詞の目的語 (の一部 )として用い, 主語としては用いない （⇨［第6文例 ］）. また 「互いに 」という日本語に引かれて副詞句として用いないように注意 .▸ 互いに話し合う talk to [╳talk ] each other / talk together .▸ この子供たちはお互いにとても仲がよい These children are very friendly with each other [one another ]. (!with に注意 ) ▸ 彼らは互いに尊敬し合っている They respect each other [one another ].【相互に尊敬の念を持っている 】They have [(共有する ) share ] a mutual feeling of respect .▸ 彼らはお互いの長所を知っている They know each other's [one another's, mutual ] strong points .▸ 我々はお互いにプレゼントを交換した We gave each other presents .We exchanged presents [╳present ] (with each other ).▸ お互いに頑張ろう Let's do our best . (!日本語と異なり, 代名詞なのでこの後に for each other や for one another をつけられない. つけると違った意味になるので注意 ) ▸ 彼らはお互いに何を考えているのか分かっている They each know [Each of them knows ] what the other thinks . (!╳They know what each other thinks. とはいわない. なお, 否定文にすると Neither of them knows [｟話 ｠ know ] what the other thinks. となる )
