Chaucer, Geoffrey

Chau cer, Geoffrey |ˈCHôsər ˈtʃɔsər | ( c. 1342 –1400 ), English poet. His Canterbury Tales ( c. 1387 –1400 ) is a cycle of linked tales told by a group of pilgrims. His skills of characterization, humor, and versatility established him as the first great English poet. Chaucer also wrote Troilus and Criseyde ( c. 1385 ).
