n.[L. hilaritas; Gr. joyful, merry. ] Mirth; merriment; gayety. Hilarity differs from joy; the latter, excited by good news or prosperity, is an affection of the mind; the former, by social pleasure, drinking, etc. , which rouse the animal spirits.
