Mafeking
Mafeking |ˈmafɪkɪŋ | a town in South Africa, capital of North West (as Mafikeng ). In 1899 –1900, during the Second Boer War, a small British force commanded by Lord Baden-Powell was besieged there for 215 days; its eventual relief was greeted in Britain with widespread celebration. Modern spelling (since 1980 ) Mafikeng.
