おくのほそみち 【『奥の細道 』】Narrow Road to the Interior ; Narrow Road to the Deep North . (!松尾芭蕉の俳諧紀行 ) 名言 奥の細道 ▸ 月日は百代 （はくたい ）の過客 （くわかく ）にして ，行きかふ年も又旅人也 ． (略 ) 古人も多く旅に死せるあり ．余もいづれの年よりか ，片雲の風にさそはれて ，漂白の思いやまず 略 Days and months are travellers of eternity . So are the years that pass by . There are great number of ancients, too, who died on the road . I myself have been tempted for a long time by the cloud-moving wind --- filled with a strong desire to wander . (Yuasa Nobuyuki ) (!(1 ) 「月日 」は 「(年月 ) years, (時 ) time 」だが ，この場合は次の文の 「年 」と対比させているので ，文字どおり days and months としている ． (2 ) 「古人 」は ，単に 「古代の人 」「昔の人 」というのでなく ，過去の世の ，芭蕉の尊敬する詩人や歌人 (杜甫 宗祇 西行ら )をさしているとも思われる ．その意味をはっきりさせて There were not a few poets of the past ages whose life ended on a journey. とすることもできよう )
