Jenkins, Roy

Jen kins, Roy |ˈjeNGkinz ˈʤɛŋkənz |, Baron Jenkins of Hillhead (1920 –2003 ), English politician and scholar; full name Roy Harris Jenkins. He was a member of Parliament 1948 –76 and 1982 –87 and then served as chancellor of Oxford University. Notable works: Mr. Attlee (1948 ), Truman (1986 ), and Gladstone (1995 ).

Jen kins's Ear, War of a war between England and Spain (1739 ). It was precipitated by a British sea captain, Robert Jenkins, who appeared before Parliament to produce what he claimed was his ear, cut off by the Spanish while they were carrying out a search of his ship in the Caribbean.

Jen |kins |ˈdʒɛŋkɪnz | (Harris ), Baron Jenkins of Hillhead (1920 –2003 ), English Labour and Social Democrat MP and scholar. A Labour MP between 1948 and 1976, he co-founded the Social Democratic Party in 1981 and represented Glasgow Hillhead 1982 –7. He then became Chancellor of Oxford University.
