MONASTERY
n.[Low L. monasterium; Gr. from sole, separate. ] A house of religious retirement, or of seclusion from ordinary temporal concerns, whether an abbey, a priory or a nunnery. The word is usually applied to the houses of monks, mendicant friars and nuns.
