CARNELIAN
n.A siliceous stone, a variety of chalcedony, of a deep red, flesh-red, or reddish white color. It is tolerably hard, capable of a good polish, and used for seals. Carnel-work, in ship building, is the putting together the timbers, beams and planks, as distinguished from clinch-work.
