Pa so li ni, Pier Paolo |ˌpasəˈlēnē, ˌpä -ˌpæsəˈlini | (1922 –75 ), Italian movie director and novelist. A Marxist, he drew on his experiences in the slums of Rome for his work, but became recognized for his controversial, bawdy literary adaptations, such as The Gospel According to St. Matthew (1964 ) and The Canterbury Tales (1973 ).
