Fos "sa, n.; pl. FossÆ. Etym: [L., a ditch. See Fosse. ] (Anat. )

 

Defn: A pit, groove, cavity, or depression, of greater or less depth; as, the temporal fossa on the side of the skull; the nasal fossæ containing the nostrils in most birds.
