(!後の方は通例否定文で用いる ) ▸ 彼の誇りを傷つける hurt [wound ] his pride .▸ …ということを誇りに思う I' m proud [(光栄に思う ) I' m honored ] that ….▸ 私は日本人であることを誇りに思っている I am proud of [take pride in, pride myself on ] being a Japanese .▸ 彼らは我が校の誇り ｟名誉 ｠だ They are an honor [a credit ] to our school .They are the pride of our school . (!主語が複数であっても honors, credits, the prides とはしない ) ▸ どんな人にでも誇りはある Everybody has their pride .▸ 質問するなんて彼の誇りが許さない His pride will not allow him to ask questions .【彼は誇りが高すぎて質問できない 】He is too proud to ask questions . (!「彼の誇りが高い 」は ╳His pride is high. とはいわないことに注意 )
