いよいよ 1 【ますます 】more and more (!more に限らず他の形容詞 副詞の比較級も用いる ) ; 【それだけいっそう 】all the more [better ] 〘for; because 節 〙.▸ その問題を解決するのがいよいよ難しくなった We have found it more and more difficult to solve the problem .▸ 雨がいよいよ激しくなった It rained harder and harder .▸ 彼は控えめなのでいよいよ好きだ I like him all the better for his modesty [because of his modesty, because he is modest ]. (!(1 ) like の場合は通例 more でなく better を用いる. (2 ) 後の二つは彼が控えめである点が最大の理由となり,「控えめでなければ好きでない 」ことを暗示する ) ▸ 彼女に会えば会うほどいよいよ嫌いになる The more I see her, the less I like her . (!the +比較級, the +比較級は 「…すればするほどますます …」の意 ) As I see her more (often ) [see more of her ], I like her less .
