くつ 【靴 】〖短靴 〗shoes ; 〖長靴 〗｟米 ｠boots, ｟英 ｠ high boots . (!いずれも複数扱い ) 使い分け shoe ｟米 ｠ では通例くるぶしより少し上までの靴にもそれより下までの靴にも用いられ, 特に両者を区別する場合は high shoe, low shoe で表すが, ｟英 ｠ では通例くるぶしより下までの靴にのみ用いる .boot ｟米 ｠ では high shoe よりさらに高い靴を表すのに対し, ｟英 ｠ では ｟米 ｠ の high shoe と同じ高さかそれ以上の靴をいう .解説 shoe, boot とも特に片方を表すとき以外は複数形で用い, 数えるときは a pair [two pairs ] of shoes のようにいう. その場合単 複の扱いは pair の数に一致する .1 ~靴 ▸ 運動靴 ｟米 ｠sneakers, ｟英 ｠ plimsolls, ｟英 ｠ trainers .▸ 革 [ゴム ]靴 leather [rubber ] shoes .▸ 紳士 [婦人 ]靴 men's [ladies' ] shoes .▸ 雨靴 rain boots .▸ 新しい靴1足 a new pair of shoes .
