どちら 1 【どれ 】which ; 〖二つのうちの一つ 〗either ; 【どちらも …ない 】neither ; 〖両方 〗both ; 〖どちらを …しようと 〗whichever .解説 either と neither は (ⅰ ) 形容詞, (ⅱ ) 代名詞, (ⅲ ) 接続詞の用法がある. (ⅰ ) 形容詞としては either [neither ]+単数名詞の形で用いる. (ⅱ ) 代名詞としては either, neither をそれぞれ単独で用いる場合と either [neither ] of +the [one's ]+複数名詞, either [neither ] of +複数代名詞の形で用いる場合がある. いずれも単数扱いが原則だが ｟話 ｠ では特に否定文 疑問文で複数扱いが多い. (ⅲ ) 接続詞としては either A or B, neither A nor B の形で用いる. A, B は文法的に対等の関係にある語 句 節がくる. 後に動詞が続く場合はBに呼応するのが原則だが, ｟話 ｠ ではBが単数でも複数扱いになることが多い .both は both +複数名詞, both of +the [one's ]+複数名詞, both A and B の形で用いる. いずれも複数扱い. Whichever (one ) you may choose, … は文語的 ) ③どちらか either … or ….▸ その責任は彼か私かのどちらかにある Either he or I am responsible for it .
