まったく 【全く 】1 【完全に 】quite ; absolutely ; completely ; totally ; utterly ; entirely .使い分け quite 「まったく 」の意の最も一般的な語. 通例この用法の quite は, 極限またはそれに近く比較の余地のない形容詞や副詞 (amazing, awful, certain, complete, empty, enough, exhausted, extraordinary, finished, full, perfect, ready, (all ) right, sure, unique, wrong など ), 極限 完結を暗示する動詞 (agree, believe, cover, finish, forget, refuse, reject, ruin, understand など ), 相違 反対を表す語 (another, contrary, different, opposite など )を修飾する .absolutely 話し手の主観的で強い確信を表す ．通例 all, every, no, always, never などの全体を暗示する語のほか, 極限に近い状態を表す語や強い感情を表す語とともに用いられる .completely すべての部分がそろい欠けるところがなく完全である状態を表す ．完結 達成などを暗示する .totally 「あらゆる点で 」「全面的に 」の意で ，人や物事の状態 性質の程度を強調する ．utterly 話し手の感情を強く表す ．否定的で好ましくない意の語と用いることが多い. 好ましい意の語の場合は, 通例極限状態を表す語と用いる .entirely 全体に渡って当てはまることを表す ．例外が一切無いことを含意する ．▸ まったく同感です I quite [completely, totally, utterly, entirely ] agree (with you ).
