RELAPSE

v.i.relaps'. [L. relapsus, relabor, to slide back; re and labor, to slide. ] 1. To slip or slide back; to return.
2. To fall back; to return to a former state or practice; as, to relapse into vice or error after amendment.
3. To fall back or return from recovery or a convalescent state; as, to relapse into a fever.

n.relaps'. A sliding or falling back, particularly into a former bad state, either of body or of morals; as a relapse into a disease from a convalescent state; a relapse into a vicious course of life. [In the sense of a person relapsing, not used. ]

RELAPSE

Re *lapse " (r-lps "), v. i. [imp. & p. p. Relapsed (-lpst "); p. pr. &vb. n. Relapsing. ] Etym: [L.relapsus, p. p. of relabi to slip back, to relapse; pref. re- re- + labi to fall, slip, slide. See Lapse. ]

To slide or turn back into a former state or practice; to fall back from some condition attained; -- generally in a bad sense, as from a state of convalescence or amended condition; as, to relaps into a stupor, into vice, or into barbarism; -- sometimes in a good sense; as, to relapse into slumber after being disturbed. 3. (Theol.)
