はず 〖当然 〗should 〘do 〙; ought to 〘do 〙; must 〘do 〙; 【必ず …するに違いない 】be bound 〘to do 〙; 〖予定 〗【…することになっている 】be supposed 〘to do 〙 (!supposed to は /səpóustə / と読む ) ; ｟書 ｠be to 〘do 〙; 【予定 時間などで決まっている 】be due 〘to do 〙.解説 should と ought to は話し手が期待する結果を推量していう言い方だが, should の方が主観的でよく用いられる. must は 「…に違いない 」という話し手の強い確信を表す. ｟話 ｠ では have (got ) to が用いられることもある. should, ought, must は通例強勢を受ける .1 …である [する ]はずだ ▸ 今たてば正午までにはそこへ着くはずだ If we leave now, we should [ought to, ╳must ] arrive there by noon .
