ほど （副助 ）〔名詞 「ほど （程 ）」から 。中世以降の語 〕体言および体言的なもの ，活用語の連体形などに付く 。① 多く数量を表す語や指示代名詞などに付いて ，おおよその分量 程度を表す 。「あと五百万 ―あれば ，土地が買えるのだが 」「これ ―言うのにわからないのか 」② ある特徴的な事柄をあげて ，それにより動作 状態の程度を表す 。「かわいそうな ―，しょげかえっている 」「予算総額からいえば ，そんな費用などなに ―のこともない 」「泣きたい ―腹が立つ 」③ （下に打ち消しの語を伴って ）程度を比べる基準を表す 。「今年は ，いつも ―暑くはない 」「病気見舞い ―うれしいものはない 」④ （多く 「…するほどに 」「…ば …ほど 」の形で用いられて ）一方の程度が高まるに比例して ，他方も高まるという意を表す 。…するにつれてますます 。「火事は ，発見が早ければ早い ―，消しとめられる 」「見れば見る ―美人だ 」「地位が高い ―，腰が低いものだ 」
