(!(1 ) このように形容詞の最上級を用いて否定の意味を強める場合, 成句表現として ｟米 ｠でも haven't が用いられるのが普通であったが, 今は (I ) haven't the faintest (idea )! のような省略を伴う応答文以外では don't have が一般化しつつある. なお, 過去文脈では didn't have the faintest … が普通.
