(!that節の代わりに wh-節, wh- 句なども用いられる ) ▸ 秀雄は 「今日は太郎と泳ぎに行った 」と言った Hideo said , “I went swimming with Taro today .”解説 直接話法はだれかが言った内容をそのまま正確に伝える伝達形式, 書き言葉では “Taro and I went swimming today, ” Hideo said [said Hideo ]. / “Taro and I,” Hideo said [said Hideo ], “went swimming today. ” などの語順も可. また said Hideo (動詞 +主語 )という語順は, 主語が人称代名詞でなく ，かつ動詞が単純現在形や過去形の場合に限る ．したがって ╳said he, ╳has said Hideo などとはいわない ．間接話法はだれかが言った内容を伝達する者の言葉にかえて客観的かつ間接的に伝える伝達形式 ．上の例文は状況に応じて Hideo said [╳told ] (that ) he had gone swimming [had gone to the beach for a swim ] with Taro that day. などと言い換えが可. この場合 went → had gone, I → he のような動詞の時制と人称代名詞の変更に注意. ただし today → that day, here → there, this → that のような時 場所などを示す語の言い換えは伝達が発言と同じ日や場所で行われる場合にはしない: 今朝彼は 「あした東京へ行く 」と言っていた This morning he said , “I'm going to Tokyo tomorrow. ” / This morning he said that he was going to Tokyo tomorrow [╳the next day ].▸ メアリーは私に 「ゆうべここであなたのお母さんに会ったの 」と言った “I met your mother here last night, ” Mary said to me [told me ].Mary told me [said to me ] (that ) she had met my mother there the night before . (!聞き手を明示するときは, 直接話法では say, 間接話法では tell を用いる方が普通. また直接話法での語順は通例被伝達文の後または中間に置く. ただし最近では文頭でも用いるようになってきた ) ▸ 「この辺では駐車するな 」と彼は私に言った “Don't park around here, ” he said to [(命じた ) ordered , (注意した ) warned ] me .He told [ordered, warned ] me not to park around here [there ].
